Tempered glass
Tempered glass, also known as toughened glass, is a type of safety glass processed by thermal or chemical treatments to increase its strength compared to regular glass.

This process subjects’ raw glass to controlled rapid heating and cooling. As a result, the outer surfaces are put in compression and the inner surfaces in tension. When broken, tempered glass crumbles into small granular pieces rather than splintering into large, jagged fragments, reducing the likelihood of causing injury. Some features and advantages of tempered glass include:
An 8/10 mm thick tempered glass can withstand the impact of a 500-gram steel ball falling freely from a height of 2 meters.
Tempered glass can withstand a pressure of up to 10,000 kg/cm² before pulverizing.
It breaks under an angle of 27° C equivalent to 180 kg of torque.
The breaking strength varies from 1200 to 2000 kg/cm², which is equivalent to 4 to 5 times the strength of normal glass.
Tempered glass is used in various applications, such as paddle and squash courts, bathroom and shower screens, kitchen countertops, machined doors, shelves, tables, display cabinets and, ultimately, in any application where extra safety and strength is required.
At Cristalería Encinas we have one of the most modern and efficient tempered glass ovens on the market, specially designed for the treatment of energy-saving glass (Low-E).

- How does the convection tempered glass oven work?
- Instead of using compressed air injected from a compressor outside the oven, the high-volume air convection system is based on fans located inside the oven itself.
- These fans recirculate the already hot air present inside the heating oven.
- Heat transfer is extremely precise and fast, allowing for efficient tempering of cutting-edge glass.
- Advantages of the convection tempering furnace
- Greater precision in heat transfer.
- Reduced energy consumption.
- Production of high-quality glass, including low-emissivity (Low-E) glass.
- All pre-tempering manufacturing is carried out by several state-of-the-art CNC machines, allowing for exceptional quality finishes.
